Your general dentistry visit to North Garland Dental & Orthodontics can last about an hour — because we believe in spending the time required to give you a thorough exam. We’ve specialized in implants and orthodontics, but we are a full-service dental provider with experience helping children, special-needs patients, and older patients. Exams and cleanings, done properly

We recommend routine dental exams and cleanings every six months, in line with American Dental Association (ADA) guidelines — though we may want to see you more frequently if you have certain oral health issues such as gum disease. Routine cleanings keep the surfaces of your teeth smooth and free of tartar, which reduces your chances of developing tooth decay and periodontal disease.

Every exam also includes an oral cancer screening and a check for signs of gum disease. Why? Because these two problems often go undetected — and if allowed to progress, they can cause serious complications.

Watch for the signs of gum disease

Should gum disease prove to be a problem, Dr. Jonathan Kuipers can perform periodontal therapy to treat its onset — deep cleaning the infected area and smoothing the tooth root. Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults and can cause or exacerbate serious health conditions. Come see us if you notice:
